Dear Reader,
Atherton the House of Power follows nope eleven year old boy named Edger. Edger is a skinny boy who lives on the middle level of Atherton called Tabletop. He is all alone in Tabletop in the beginning of the story, but soon finds friends in many people. The friends he has the closest relations to are Isabel and Samuel. Isabel grew up in Tabletop with Edger. She always spied on Edger, and eventually she picked up on things he did and became just like him. Samuel is a boy who lives in the highest level of Atherton called the Highlands . Edger Climbed up to the Highlands so he may find someone who could read a book that was left for him. Once he gets to the Highlands he meets a boy the same age as him called Samuel. Just like Edger, Samuel is all alone because he is a child among elders who lives in the house of power. So Samuel agreed to help Edger read and understand the book that was left for him. Through these two characters coming to, and helping Edger the theme of friendship is shown to the readers of this book.

Hello Isabel! I got your poem, and I would like to thank you for it. You did that for me, so I’ll give you the recipe for making sweet dough out of fig trees.
- make sure the tree you pick to do this is from the third harvest
- split the tree open
- pull out the spongy orange core of the tree
- take an old dry fig, then mash it up to make a powder out of it
- take the powder and mix it in with the core until it reaches a brown color
- mix the mixture you have just made with a little water
After you do all of this the dough will taste like sweet cocoa. I hope you enjoy being able to make it.

Reflection
Let me take some time to explain who I chose the genres I did. First, I chose to do a poem. The poem is from Isabel and it was for edger. In the poem she is saying and expressing her feelings for him. In the book she starts to like him, so I thought I would show it. Seconded, I drew a picture of a route that Edger takes to get up to Samuel. It book didn’t say how he got he way up every time he did, so I thought of showing a route he mapped out so he doesn’t get into danger. Next, I did the pictures and captions. My first picture is of someone climbing up a cliff. It shows Edger climbing up to the highlands to see Samuel. The next picture is of someone holding a book. I used this to represent that Edger is giving Samuel the book that was left for him. The last picture is an open book. It shows that Samuel is reading Edger the book. Then lastly is a recipe for sweet fig dough. In the novel I read the fig and fig tree are someone of the most important things in the land because almost everything was made from them. The recipe is from Edger to Isabel saying thank you and doing something for her.
The poem shows my theme of friendship because Isabel wrote a poem about their friendship together and how friends should be there for each other always. The drawing of Edger’s route to see Samuel shows the theme by him having a way to see his friend every time without running into any surprises or danger. The pictures and captions show the whole process of edger getting to Samuel and having Samuel read to Edger because Edger cannot read, like a friend would do. Lastly, the recipe to Isabel shows Edger’s thanks for the poem she had wrote him, and because of that he decided to be a nice, friendly person and do something for her.

I have a big heart
I guess you kind of knew that from the start
Sometimes life can be hard
It's like we are playing with a deck of cards
I want you to know I think of you quite often
Too often some might say
But what they don't realize
I can feel the pain
Sometimes we need someone to blame
Just so you know
If you ever need a friend
Or someone who understands
I can be a shoulder to cry on
I can lend an ear if you need someone to listen
Whenever you need an extra step I can give you a gentle push
If you ever need a guide....
Then I'll be by your side
I can lend you a hand
Sometimes we need someone to understand
God sends us guides
When sometimes all we want to do is cover our head and cry
That's when we need a friend. Even though we want to sigh.
I may be too much for you and you don't understand.
But do know this I have been there too my friend
